“The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.” (Psalm 23:1)

It is presumed that David wrote this when he ruled as king, which was between the ages of 30-70. However, it isn't so much the age that is noteworthy. I find it more interesting that a king knew God and proclaimed him as his shepherd.

Someone on the highest level of leadership, understood that his role was still to follow. On top of this, David used the term Shepherd. He could have picked so many others. He saw himself as a lowly sheep under the guide of God.

Another factor is with David's use of future-tense when saying, "I shall not want," seemed to imply he trusted in God's leadership deeply. It's easy to say that you can trust God in this current moment, but the future too? That is absolute trust.

It's easy to see God as God, but is he the Good Shepherd? Does he lead you? Do you absolutely trust him?

“I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep...”

(John 10:11)
