“For whatever God says to us is full of living power: it is sharper than the sharpest dagger, cutting swift and deep into our innermost thoughts and desires with all their parts, exposing us for what we really are.” (Hebrews 4:12)
It seems that a lot of people that struggle with mental health seem to really have issues in spring and fall. I'm not sure if it's the whole Seasonal Affective Disorder thing, but I've noticed it more in those seasons. Truth be told, I can struggle with it if I'm not proactive about it.
If you are one of the people that tends to struggle with seasons, I highly suggest that you start to memorize Scripture. I'm not saying to stop other methods you choose, but adding this is a game changer. Like vitamins, it may take a while before you begin to notice it's impact though.
The wonders that knowing the Bible has done in my mind and emotions is remarkable. There have been time after time over the years where I didn't know what to do or how to process something and deeply needed wisdom, then a Scripture would come to mind. And I know many other people who can attest to the same type of experience.
If you're not sure of all the benefits of Scripture, just read Psalm 119. Start there and take note of every time testimonies, commands, precepts, statutes, laws, and word is mentioned (depending on your translation). Then hundreds of years later, the writers of Hebrews and 2 Timothy stand in agreement with those ideas. To drive my point further, even Jesus said that man should live from every word that comes out of the mouth of God (Matthew 4:4).
If you're up for the challenge (and it's benefits), start small. Take a small portion of a passage, maybe even one I mentioned today, and start trying to know it by heart. Write it, recite it, whatever suits you best. The spiritual dividends are worth every consistent effort you give. I'll leave you this week with a few more Scriptures to consider.
“The whole Bible was given to us by inspiration from God and is useful to teach us what is true and to make us realize what is wrong in our lives; it straightens us out and helps us do what is right. It is God’s way of making us well prepared at every point, fully equipped to do good to everyone.”
(2 Timothy 3:16-17)
“Sanctify them by Your truth. Your word is truth.”
(John 17:17)
“Jesus replied, “But even more blessed are all who hear the word of God and put it into practice.”’
(Luke 11:28)
