“Now this I say and testify in the Lord, that you must no longer walk as the Gentiles do, in the futility of their minds.” (Ephesians 4:17)

It is common and even understandable that when trying to relate and understand God and Scripture, we can feel intimidated or overwhelmed. Honestly, I think those feels are rooted in humility and are actually healthy for believers to have in a way. However, that should not keep us from engaging with God. True Christianity requires engagement from the whole person.

People often only activate their heart with their faith. When they activate their minds, they start to have a million questions and if they are truly honest, probably start having some doubts too. So, often the response is to shut down their brain and just rely on their faith through emotional devotion and sentimentalism.

I want to encourage you, God is bigger than your questions and doubts. In fact, many times I find understanding in Scripture/study, and it fortifies my beliefs. But I have to be honest and allow for those doubts and questions to surface. Actually, I would even argue that embracing the mystery and the unknown of your faith is what makes your walk with God even better. I may not get every question answered this side of heaven, but I’m confident enough to realize I may not need to grasp some things. I can leave those to God with peace of mind.

It’s time to start engaging your mind with your faith in God. You can love God and bring him your questions at the same time. Ask him about them and the help to get understanding. Engage all you are so that you can experience a deeper level with God.

“ …And you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.’’

(Mark 12:30)
