“But I am like an olive tree flourishing in the house of God; I trust in God’s unfailing love for ever and ever.” (Psalm 52:8)

David knew who he was and where he was planted. It would be smart for us to take a cue from him. However, it is interesting that David compared himself to an olive tree of all things considering his background was shepherding and then, being a king. Here’s some interesting finds about olive trees:

- They can live long. On average they last 300-600 years.

- They need regular pruning because they require strong sunlight in order to produce good levels of oil (the pruning reduces the density of the foliage to allow sunlight to penetrate every part of the olive tree).

- It takes about 15 years for an olive tree to mature and start harvesting fruit. It takes 4-6 years before they start to take shape (after that they just get bigger in shape).

-They are extremely resilient. They can grow under adverse conditions and survive droughts and drought stress. The wood is resistant to decay. If the top dies, a new trunk will often arise from the roots.

Do you share any of these characteristics of an olive tree? Are you resilient? Do you allow God to prune you consistently? Knowing your condition is key in every season with God.

“I am the vine and you are the branches. The one who remains in Me, and I in him, will bear much fruit. For apart from Me you can do nothing.”

(John 15:5)
