Momentum For Monday, March 13th 2023

I've never been much for St. Patrick's Day. Although my family is supposed to have distant relatives in Ireland, pots of gold, leprechaun's, and green beer never did anything for me (shout out to my Aunt Cindy though, because it is her favorite day to celebrate). However, much like Christmas, main-stream culture has buried the truth behind the real reason behind the holiday. My current class for school covered a bit of history of missions, including St. Patrick and I thought I'd pass some of the info along since I found his life quite inspiring (and none of it has to do with leprechauns):

-He was born in Roman controlled Britain.

-Kidnapped at the age of 16 and sold into slavery in Ireland, he came to faith in his captivity.

-After escaping slavery 6 years later, he went home, but in a vision was called back to Ireland.

-Within 15 years, most of Ireland had been reached in some form thanks to his ministry.

-It's celebrated on March 17th because that's the date of his death.

Anyways, hope you enjoyed this little history lesson and found it as encouraging as I did. I've certainly changed my outlook on the holiday and appreciate it much more now.
