“I will remember the deeds of the Lord; yes, I will remember your wonders of old.” (Psalm 77:11)

When times are good: remembering God and crediting HIm for all he’s done is nourishment for the soul. It is also wise to make the most of the time and celebrate (which is what that word remember means) so that you give credit where credit is due. It is easy to think the good of this life is due to our work, our efforts, and our abilities. Just because you have opportunities that allow you to make the most of this life does not mean you’re the author and creator of blessings- it is God .

When times are bad: remembering what God has done in the past gives you the endurance to keep going. Emotions can easily bury our trust and assurance in him. The longer the season of hardship, the easier it is to forget or doubt. The remembering is to encourage your own soul to persevere.

An additional tip is to learn the discipline of journaling. It is difficult to remember all that God has accomplished over the years and depending upon your own memory is unreliable. Record as much as you can as often as possible.

“You may say to yourself, “My power and the strength of my hands have produced this wealth for me.” But remember the Lord your God, for it is he who gives you the ability to produce wealth, and so confirms his covenant, which he swore to your ancestors, as it is today.”

(Deuteronomy 8:17-18)
