“…It shall accomplish all I want it to and prosper everywhere I send it.” (Isaiah 55:11b)
God has long used nature and agriculture to illustrate points all throughout Scripture. The more we understand nature and agriculture, the more we can understand our Creator. Since, I've been sitting in Isaiah 55 this week, I'll use this chapter as a "case in point."
Isaiah is speaking/prophesying in this chapter, but let's lean in a little closer. There is a message within a message, if you will. Starting at verse 10, Isaiah starts explaining how a seed is nourished. Of course, just like in the New Testament, seed is a symbol for the Word of God (prophetic and literal).
Now, I keep a list. I'm not always a list person, but I do keep a list of Scripture or promises, that I believe have been spoken to me or over me. I have them and read and pray over them frequently. Some of the promises on the list have been there for ten years, and others, just a couple. Some days or seasons it is easy to keep my faith in them, some days I struggle to believe and feel discouraged.
As I sat and meditated on Isaiah 55 this week, I felt God reminding me that while he promises to send his word out to accomplish what it will do, it does take time and probably longer than what I think. Go back to Isaiah's description of how rain and snow waters the Earth, that alone references not just a season, but several. Rain comes in certain seasons and snow comes in winter. Multiple seasons = longer waiting. I often view my life in a season, not several. How about you?
If you find yourself still waiting for promises to come to pass as I am, I hope this encourages you. Because it hasn't happened yet, doesn't mean it won't. It just means we have to come to terms with it taking more than a season. You're not wrong. You haven't messed anything up. It's just taking longer than we thought, and we can't forget that his thoughts are not ours. As someone once said, "The day you plant the seed is not the day you eat the fruit." Hang in there, gang.
“And God, who supplies seed for the sower and bread to eat, will also supply you with all the seed you need and will make it grow and produce a rich harvest from your generosity.”
