“I spoke and thought and reasoned like a child…” (1 Corinthians 13:11)
One of the biggest things that brought freedom in my life as a Christian, was understanding the love of God also means heeding correction. It took me years to understand this, but when I did, it not only impacted my life as a Christian, but as a person as well.
It is only through maturity that we can embrace restriction and discipline as a good thing and not punishment. A child cannot understand that rules are enforced for the sake of safety and love. With every no, they throw a fit.
However, when I understood that every bit of Scripture was written for our benefit and not against it, it was like I crossed a threshold in my walk with God. I saw things differently. I was also able to experience deeper things with God because I was able to embrace a bigger perspective as well.
Not to make this sound negative, but often, the biggest growth spurts I've experienced in Christianity has occurred on the other side of correction. God has had to reframe my thinking or humble me to hear some things that I wasn't hearing.
So my question is, if there is an area of your life that you’re struggling in, could it possibly be that it needs reframed? Could God possibly trying to get you to see it differently? Does the situation need to change or could YOU possibly be the one that needs to change? If freedom is at stake, then it’s worth seeking God about it.
“Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect.”
(Romans 12:2)
