“Don’t be conceited, sure of your own wisdom. Instead, trust and reverence the Lord, and turn your back on evil.” (Proverbs 3:7, TLB)
Some of the most brilliant minds the world has ever known are still no match for God. How He thinks and what He thinks is far more genius than we could ever process. The smartest human could not compare to the genius of God.
What we can understand and conceive is limited by our experience, our willingness to learn, education, and even culture. Yet, God is beyond all of it. He has existed since the beginning (Genesis 1:1; John 1:1) and His wisdom is trustworthy.
We humans, on the other hand, can be misled easily. Our hearts deceive us and can lead us into distorted and/or emotional thinking and perceptions (Jeremiah 17:9). So, it stands to reason that the mark of a truly wise person is one who understands their faults and shortcomings and relies on God’s word. They know that God has a principle and purpose behind all of His commands that can be trusted, even when we can’t understand them.
Do you rely on science and/or human wisdom or God’s? What holds more truth to you, human experience and what can be proven or the Truth from Scripture? Try allowing God a chance to speak wisdom to you when you need it. You just need to stop and ask for it like James 1:5 instructs.
“My thoughts are nothing like your thoughts,” says the Lord. “And my ways are far beyond anything you could imagine. For just as the heavens are higher than the earth, so my ways are higher than your ways and my thoughts higher than your thoughts.”
