“Yet Michael, one of the mightiest of the angels, when he was arguing with Satan about Moses’ body…” (Jude 9a)

Some of my favorite parts of Scripture are the little nuggets that are peppered throughout the Bible. I may never understand some verses. While others, take years for me to grasp. Today, I just want to offer a thought on one of those verses.

I have tried to find some information on this verse but couldn’t find much. However, I still felt God pose a question to me that has often left me in deep consideration. If you find anything, you can always send me your thoughts.

It seems so random to me that Jude would mention the detail about the body of Moses being argued over. All commentaries seem to assume that Moses was dead when this occurred, but I couldn’t find proof of whether this happened during life or death, so we’ll go with the assumption of Moses being dead. This is where I pose my thought. If a dead body was worth arguing over, then how much more valuable is a person alive?

No, you and I are not Moses, but we can certainly do more and have more potential than a corpse…right? So, if the devil will fight over a corpse than how much warfare is occurring over your life right now? And we wonder why we get met with such opposition and battle at times.

Now, I’m not one to give all credit to the devil over every little bad thing that happens. But denying spiritual realities isn’t exactly wise either. A proper focus on knowing the magnitude of God first, while understanding that spiritual opposition exists would be wise.

So, what could possibly be the takeaway? I’ll let you decide. Let God whisper to you through the text as you meditate on it (I mean, that’s what I’m still doing). But just remember, you and I are so valuable on both sides of eternity, and we are definitely worth fighting for, which is why Jesus did precisely that on the Cross.

But Christ proved God’s passionate love for us by dying in our place while we were still lost and ungodly!

(Romans 5:8)
