“The Lord brought about a great victory that day.” (2 Samuel 23:10)

The story about Eleazar is probably one of my favorites in the entire Bible (it’s not too lengthy so I especially encourage you to read it). There’s not much backstory. There’s also not much attributed to Eleazar in Scripture overall. However, this little gem that is tucked away in a short little bit of 2 Samuel packs a punch.

Frankly, I tend to favor narratives like this in Scripture. Another favorite is Jacob wrestling God. Here, Eleazar might be noted as one of David’s mighty men, but he is a model to men and women in Christianity to this day.

There are seasons in life where we wait. Life may seem boring and completely uneventful or maybe even pointless. You may even wonder why you keep doing the same disciplines every day because they don’t seem to matter.

But then there are seasons of weight (see what I did there?). Every decision is calculated and weighted. Everything you do matters. It is a season of battle. In these seasons, be like Eleazar.

Fight without every letting yourself slip from the promises of God. In fact, fight so much that all you can do is attach yourself to the sword of God. In seasons such as that, do not let go and let God bring about victory. Whether it’s a matter of wait or weight…don’t give up.

“For you equipped me with strength for the battle; you made those who rise against me sink under me.”

(Psalm 18:39)
