"These Philistines were descendants of the giants of Gath, but David and his warriors killed them." (1 Chronicles 20:8)
It is wildly popular, even to little children, that David killed a giant. Almost everyone (in the American culture at least) knows about David and Goliath. What is lesser known, and is very fascinating, is that David's leadership was responsible for slaying several giants.
It is absolutely amazing to have accomplished taking out Goliath. The story is impressive, to say the least (1 Samuel 17 if you'd like to revisit it). However, that is not the pinnacle of David's legacy. He experiences more than one victory in battle, and that's not even the best thing about his story
One of my favorite parts of the Old Testament is David's mighty men (one of these days I'll do a deep-dive study on them when time permits). He had a crew of men that were anointed and gifted for battle. Under David's leadership they accomplished some incredible wins.
David, who is now older and most likely not as spry as he was in his earlier years, is still defeating giants by those that serve under him. He presumably taught these men how to face a giant with success from his previous experience in life. This got me thinking.
You and I have a legacy to leave. What giants have been defeated in our lifetime? Who are we teaching to defeat their giants (if it all)?
To win is great, but helping others win is an even greater experience to know.
"Go ahead and prepare for the conflict, but victory comes from God."
(Proverbs 21:31)
