“I also pray that you will understand the incredible greatness of God’s power for us who believe him. This is the same mighty power 20 that raised Christ from the dead and seated him in the place of honor at God’s right hand in the heavenly realms.” (Ephesians 1:19-20)
Recently, I spent almost a month in the Philippines on a mission trip. Everything went well, surprisingly (normally some sort of warfare occurs when you are doing mission trips). However, when I came back to pick up my car, my battery was dead (like dead, dead). It’s really not a huge ordeal, but I only mention it to make a point.
The following day, my dad took me over to jump my car. He brought jumper cables, but he used a jump kit that plugs into a electrical outlet at first. My car was gaining battery strength, but after 30 minutes, it still wouldn’t start. So, we decided to switch to jumper cables. My dad pulled up his truck and in less than 10 minutes, my car started, and I was on my way.
The thought I want to bring to mind is this: where does your power come from in your life? I’m not talking about your home or car at this point, I want to ask about your heart, mind, and soul. Because what you are connected to will determine the level of ability or capability in your life. It will even impact the level of freedom you have.
Scripture tells us that the same spirit that rose Christ from the grave is at work in us as Christians (the Holy Spirit). That’s no small thing. We’re talking about resurrection power. Think about that. How does that play out in your life?
For me, it means that hope does not evade me. Limitations are a realization for humanity and life, but not a finality. Worse case scenarios don’t pose too much of a threat, because not even death restrains the Holy Spirit.
One thing to clarify, I’m not talking about church here. Yes, church is great and we should be connected to a church, but that doesn’t ensure you’re connected to the deep empowerment that the Holy Spirit gives. Don’t get the two confused. Church can enhance this connection, but it doesn’t define it.
This week, check yourself. Look at where you depend for hope, energy, or even love. I’m not trying to knock good things, but there is better, yet a best source for our needs- the Holy Spirit.
“I want to know Christ and experience the mighty power that raised him from the dead. I want to suffer with him, sharing in his death, so that one way or another I will experience the resurrection from the dead (Philippians 3:10-11, NLT).”
