“He restores my soul; He leads me in the paths of righteousness for His name’s sake.” (Psalm 23:3)
As a good shepherd will do, he will lead the sheep to the right places with safety. He leads in paths that may not make a lot of sense to you or I, but he is leading to places that will glorify him and benefit his purposes best.
My favorite part of this verse though, is the portion that states "he restores my soul." I've been going over this passage repeatedly (s
(No bragging, it is because I needed to). I look forward to this specific phrase every time.
The fact of the matter is, I need him to restore my soul. I've gone astray from his leading more than I'd comfortably like to admit. I've gone my own path accidentally and purposely. Each time, I've regretted it. And each time, I've needed the restoration.
It's a good thing that God finds great value and love over find the lost, whether by selfishness or naivety. The love he has for his children is unmatched. He will go to great lengths to keep you in right places.
I know I'm not alone in my rebellious "side quests." I kid, but I know that others of us maybe struggle with this too. If that's you, please know that God is willing to restore your soul just like he has done mine many times over (and undeservingly at that).
“What do you think? If a man has a hundred sheep, and one of them goes astray, does he not leave the ninety-nine and go to the mountains to seek the one that is straying? And if he should find it, assuredly, I say to you, he rejoices more over that sheep than over the ninety-nine that did not go astray.”
