"This is the day the Lord has made; We will rejoice and be glad in it." (Psalm 118:24)
Scripture is essential to that of a Christian. To hate reading is one thing, but when the words you're reading in the Bible are living and active, you may want to commit to learning Scripture anyway. The dividends that pay over time are priceless. But, if you struggle with understanding Scripture or connection to it, I'll give you an idea this week that I hope will help you.
Each morning I try to do some inventory and note some self-awareness. How am I feeling? Do I know why? I will either do this on my morning walk or journal it in my devotional time.
If I'm feeling more on the negative side, I'll pray about it of course, but I will also quote Psalm 118:24 out loud to myself. And while there is never an immediate change, I try to intentionally set my thoughts to gratitude and God. This small act has helped me get through some tough seasons lately.
You see, the soul or will are also subject to choices, not feelings. Like a river, thoughts and feelings can be redirected by small adjustments. Some take years to change, others, moments.
This week, if you find yourself cranky or stressed, give Psalm 118:24 a go. Memorize it or carry it around with you. When you sense that tension, recite the verse out loud. Start a small habit in Scripture that will reap a huge reward in time.
"For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart."
(Hebrews 4:12)
