“When you’re feeling lazy, come and learn a lesson from this tale of the tiny ant. Yes, all you lazybones, come learn from the example of the ant and enter into wisdom.” (Proverbs 6:6, TPT)
It always seems interesting that God gave men dominion over every animal (Genesis 1:26), yet here we see that we are to look at one of the smallest of creatures for wisdom. Jesus reiterates the same idea in Matthew 6:26. To teach another principle, he instructs us to look at the birds of the air.
While it’s understandable that nature can teach us about wisdom, furthermore, it also teaches humility. We may have places of authority but we should never fail to be teachable from the smallest of instances.
If you’re a manager or person of authority in your workplace, can you learn from one of your employees? If a parent, could you quite possibly be taught something of value from your child? Better yet, can we be taught from any “lesser than’s” in our eyes?
Humility is a marker of a wise heart.
“Look at the birds! They don’t worry about what to eat- they don’t need to sow or reap or store up food- for your heavenly Father feeds them. And you are far more valuable to him than they are.” (Matthew 6:26, TLB)
