Don’t be misled; remember that you can’t ignore God and get away with it: a man will always reap just the kind of crop he sows! (Galatians 6:7)

Last fall, after Thanksgiving, we took the pumpkins that were on our porch that we used as decoration and threw them out in the backyard for all the critters to munch on. Well, a few weeks ago, right where we have our zucchini growing, a few pumpkins started to pop up too. We definitely didn't expect it because we forgot about it, but now that it’s happening, we're kind of hoping we grow our own pumpkins this year.

To me, I love seeing that happy little accident, but it also sent another message to me. Be careful of the words and actions you thoughtlessly go about saying/doing. Our lives reap a harvest from what we sow, intentional or not.

This is not just a word of caution, it can also be used to our advantage. I don't mean this in a new age manner of "manifesting" what we want from the universe, but with wisdom, sow abundantly and intentionally for the Kingdom of God.

This could look like speaking with love instead of sarcasm (ouch, I felt that one myself). Encourage those you see struggling. Give where you see a need (in time and service or monetarily). The possibilities and opportunities present themselves to us on a daily basis.

We will always reap what we sow, it's just a matter of when. Will you be happy about that or anxious? What we carelessly throw about in our lives in one season will be what we incur in the next.

“From the fruit of his mouth a [wise] man enjoys good, But the desire of the treacherous is for violence.”

(Proverbs 13:2)
