"Don’t be deceived: ‘bad company kills off good habits’!" (1 Corinthians 15:33)

A leadership book by David Ogilvy describes how he would welcome new recruits within his company. He would gift them a Russian nesting doll with this quote on the inside, "If each of us hires people who are smaller than we are, we shall become a company of dwarfs. But if each of us hires people who are bigger than we are, we shall become a company of giants." Therein lies a great lesson for any person to takeaway.

Who you spend your time with matters. Quality of people matters. If you are trying to reach specific goals then you need to mind your calendar. A good mentor of mine always said, "Show me your friends and I'll show you your future." Are the people that consume your time the right people?

A few additional thoughts to throw in here are to surround yourself with people that are not insecure about your gifts and talents. Also, strategically surround yourself with people who are strong in your weak areas (and you should have a few people that you're returning the favor to as well). Quality of quantity fits well in the idea of friendships and partnerships, for business or personal matters.

"Don’t befriend angry people or associate with hot-tempered people, or you will learn to be like them and endanger your soul."

(Proverbs 22:24-25, NLT)
