Momentum For Monday, January 6th 2025
“No, dear brothers, I am still not all I should be, but I am bringing all my energies to bear on this one thing: Forgetting the past and looking forward to what lies ahead, I strain to reach the end of the race and receive the prize for which God is calling us up to heaven because of what Christ Jesus did for us.” (Philippians 3:12-14)
Despite your commitments or non-commitments for resolutions in this new year, keep in mind another thought. Yes, it is wise to have all actions rooted in love or motivated by God, but that's not the only idea.
There's nothing wrong with setting a bar high or wanting to set big goals, but may I suggest that regardless of the outcome, take a beat from Paul. In this letter, he wrote to a church that had concerns. In this letter, Paul encouraged the church at Philippi to remain steadfast and strive for spiritual growth. This is still sage advice today.
We have no idea what the year has in store. There's no telling what challenges and joys lay before you. But you can strive to grow no matter what the circumstances. No matter the outcome, don’t aim for perfection, just improvement.
Last year may have presented as a long list of massive failures or frustrations for some of you. Don't focus on that though. Let it go. Press on for what lays before you. Use last year as wisdom. How can you use it to your advantage this year? What is there that can help you grow and learn this year?
“Put these abilities to work; throw yourself into your tasks so that everyone may notice your improvement and progress.”
