“In view of all this, make every effort to respond to God’s promises. Supplement your faith with a generous provision of moral excellence, and moral excellence with knowledge, and knowledge with self-control, and self-control with patient endurance, and patient endurance with godliness, and godliness with brotherly affection, and brotherly affection with love for everyone. The more you grow like this, the more productive and useful you will be in your knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. But those who fail to develop in this way are shortsighted or blind, forgetting that they have been cleansed from their old sins.” (2 Peter 1:5-9)
According to Peter, we should be adding to our faith. That alone is convicting to me. When is the last time I have attempted to add to my faith? Would we even know how to do that? Think on that a minute before proceeding.
Now, let's take a bigger look. What Peter was communicating here is that we should be in process, always. Meaning, we should be placing effort into our growth in our relationship to Christ. Growth requires intentionality though.
It's easy to sit back and say that without God, we can do nothing (John 15:5). But Scripture doesn't say to do nothing, actually, it often calls us to action. Let us be reminded that faith without deeds is dead (James 2:17).
So, how can we be intentional with our faith? Maybe start by something as little, yet as great, as prayer. Ask God to show you or speak to you about this. He is concerned about our relationship and progress with him as we are.
“Immediately the father of the child cried out and said with tears, “Lord, I believe; help my unbelief!”’
