“Now in the place where he was crucified there was a garden, and in the garden a new tomb in which no one had yet been laid.” (John 19:41)
I love when God gives me some crumbs from Scripture. To see dots connecting or for verses to suddenly make sense though I’ve read them for decades possibly, gives me life. For years I would read the Bible and just see bits and pieces, never being able to see or understand any cohesion from Genesis to Revelation, but maybe a few ideas. I still don’t understand it all and probably never will, but things have become clearer and more understandable over time.
The account of John notes a garden specifically in the setting of the burial and resurrection of Christ. Where the Bible starts one important story of a garden in Genesis, another pinnacle story continues to mark history, again, from a garden. Where Adam and Eve impacted life for every human in history thereafter, Jesus came and did the exact same thing— but this time, for the good.
Nothing is coincidental with God. In Scripture, you’ll see foreshadowing of concepts, symbolisms, and grand prophecies. What we cannot forget though, is that, God is not just about grandeur. He’s also about the small items. Every hair on our head is numbered (Luke 12:7) and even the birds of the air are cared for (Matthew 6:26). It’s a hard idea to grasp through the chaos of a fallen world, but nevertheless, it still stands true. God is in the details.
Even more, when God restores, He restores it all. Everything that was impacted, will again be impacted for the better. Just as we see here in John’s account of the Gospel, from garden to garden, God made sure every detail was included.
If you’ve been long awaiting a prayer or promise for God to restore you or a portion of your life, don’t lose heart, nothing will be missed. He’s seen it all and knows every last hurt and devastation. Whoever this speaks to, be encouraged, God is in the details.
“Not one of all the Lord’s good promises to Israel failed; every one was fulfilled.”
(Joshua 21:45)
