“The amount you give will determine the amount you get back.” (Luke 6:38b)

Every year my parents grow a garden. They've done it since I was kid. Sometimes they start from seeds only, sometimes they start with plants.

I hated it in part because one of my chores was to pluck the weeds, and who likes doing that? Anyways, what they plant differs from year to year, but the two constants they always plant are tomatoes and zucchini. And now as an adult, nothing is better to me than a garden-grown tomato and fresh fried zucchini in the summer.

Without fail though, there's a point when the garden comes in full bloom and they have more than their share of veggies than they know what to do with. It inevitably turns into hand-outs and give aways to family, neighbors, and friends. And sometimes, we have so much that we even make and can salsa.

This is the same with God. Really, he is the Master Gardener. We did, after all, start the story of humanity in a garden in Genesis.

Every day we plant seeds whether you’re aware of it or not. Regardless if they are good or bad seeds, your decisions are sowing into your life and those of others around you. Joyce Meyer once said, “When things happen to you, you need to ask if you are reaping this situation or if someone else is sowing it.”

Further, if you’ve been planting seeds and waiting, take heart. Harvests don’t occur the same day seeds are planted. Wait patiently to reap the benefits. Like my parents garden, I’m sure you’ll hit an abundance of overflow so much that you’ll have to give it away.

“And let us not get tired of doing what is right, for after a while we will reap a harvest of blessing if we don’t get discouraged and give up.”

(Galatians 6:9)
