“In the multitude of my anxieties within me, Your comforts delight my soul.” (Psalm 94:19)
Listen, I talk about mental health a lot, but it's still something I need to work on and keep working on. In fact, I'm still learning things. Because life is on-going, maintaining wellness is on-going too.
I have learned what healthy coping skills are. I'm a big fan of journaling and working out. Prayer is obviously a big one, but I'm also learning more in depth about some things I already knew to be true, but in a different light.
I caught myself in the middle of a cycle that I do. I knew I coped in a manner that wasn't healthy because I have prayed about it so many times, but I'd not had a moment of awareness in the middle of it like this before. The realization it brought me made me feel almost frustrated for the mistake, but I was also grateful for God showing me in the moment.
I know the Holy Spirit is Comforter because Scripture tells me so. And I've experienced moments of that help and comfort, but not consistently. What I'm asking God to do in this season is to help me go to Him as my refuge and fortress and not other things. I want the Holy Spirit to help me cope. Not a friend, not a family member, not even healthy habits such as working out. Those things are not bad, but for me, I desire to learn more with the Holy Spirit.
So yes, I'm learning. Nothing wrong with that. What about you? Does this speak to you and your coping skills? Have you learned something to help you?
“‘As one whom his mother comforts, So I will comfort you; And you shall be comforted in Jerusalem.”’
(Isaiah 66:13)
