"The nights of crying your eyes out give way to days of laughter." (Psalm 30:5)

I recently heard a pastor speak of his time serving people with mental health issues. Often, he'd take phone calls of people struggling with thoughts of taking their own life and would go over to their house to help them. Of course, this type of ministry meant that he would be at someone's home in the late hours of the night.

In helping people, he said that his goal was to get them to the morning. He knew that if he can just get them through the night, that they would usually be ok. His goal was to get them to breakfast.

January tends to be a bleak time for people. After the New Year, things tend to fall flat in the cold winter month after the high's of December (not everyone, but for a large majority of us). How we handle the January's or dark nights of our soul is of upmost importance because life assures us that they do come.

We may not have a pastor to walk us through our worst night or season, but we do have the Holy Spirit (if you are a saved Christian- if not, all you need to do is call on Jesus). The Holy Spirit in us is THE Comforter (John 14:26), not just a resource for comfort, but the ultimate one.

So in our worst of the worst moments when we are most discouraged, lonely, or scared- lean into the Holy Spirit. Pray for comfort. Allow him to get you through to the morning, because just assuredly as dark nights come, so does the dawn.

"Those who sow tears shall reap joy."

(Psalm 126:5)
