"Yet, my brothers, I do not consider myself to have “arrived”, spiritually, nor do I consider myself already perfect. But I keep going on, grasping ever more firmly that purpose for which Christ grasped me…" (Philippians 3:13)

Personal memories are usually marked by age. History in general is marked by the year (for instance, recalling the year 9/11 occurred and so on). With that in mind, years can bring a sense of fondness or pain.

As 2023 approaches, I find that it is always best to take a cue from Paul. Leave the past in the past so you can fully embrace what God has for you in the coming future. Sift through and take away what good you can, but it can be hard to focus if previous events are constantly weighing on our minds, distracting us constantly.

Besides, the opening verse was written by Paul. He was a man that murdered and tormented Christian's before his life changing encounter with Christ. If he can move forward in good conscience knowing he was forgiven, we certainly can too.

This week, prepare your heart and mind to begin the next year with hope. Clear out every hindrance that weighs you down. I know it's not easy, so let's maybe go through a few things to help.

Set aside about a half an hour if possible (if not, work with what ya got). Sit down and write down all you're battling. Let every emotion come up and write down every thought- keep it honest, brutally honest.

Now, pray and ask God to help to settle it within yourself to let it go. This may take some time and a few focused writing sessions to get to this point (dozens if necessary). But trusting God with our lives and all that impacts them is the best thing we can do. We cannot control anything outside of our reach, including other people.

That resentment, leave it. You can't change the past. If God has forgiven you, then forgive yourself too.

The painful betrayal, let them go. Grieve the loss. They served a season in your life and that you can be grateful for.

Wanting vengeance? Leave it with God, he knows both sides of the situation fully and how to take care of it to bring about justice. He alone knows every heart and mind.

Get ready gang. God has plans for us (Jeremiah 29:11). Happy New Year's to you all.
